Beethoven originally composed his Ecossaise in G Major for wind band, but the score was lost after the performance. One of the performers remembered the melody after Beethoven’s death and gave it to Carl Czerny (a former student of Beethoven and composer of many piano études), who created the arrangement for piano we use today.

Beethoven’s Sonatina in G Major has a pleasant and happy character throughout. The two movements are somewhat reminiscent of each other. Both melodic material and structure are similar, and the basic pulse remains more or less the same, although the first movement is in 4/4-time and the second in 6/8.
